We had trouble with tips oxidizing after replacing eutectic solder with lead-free solder. We tried the FT-700 and FS-100 of HAKKO and found that the tips had cleaned. Proper maintenance kept the tips free from oxidization for more than a week. We could use them as usual at the worksite. The nozzle of the vacuum pick-up tools we used oxidized considerably. We brushed them using the FT-700-attached brush, polished them using the tip polisher, and cleaned them with FS-100. We were surprised to see that tough oxides had been removed completely. The nozzle has become reusable. Tips and nozzles that once seemed impossible to use have become usable again, and that helps us a lot.

We tried the chemical paste and found that using the chemical paste regularly before the tips had deteriorated severely extended the life span of the tips. Wettability on the tips exceeded our expectations, nothing is left to be desired. (Minute irregularity of the tip's surface remains.) However, the regularity of the tip's surface can be restored to a certain extent, and even the tips that had been deteriorating rapidly can have surface flatness restored. Using the chemical paste saves cost in the long term.

The students who attend the soldering school do soldering work everyday, and they all have problems with tip oxidization. Even a four-day lesson is enough to oxide the tips when using lead-free solder. That is when I ask the students to use the FT-700 and FS-100. They quickly say, "This is great!", "We want this now!", and so on. When the finish criteria of soldering is tough, we use the tips that are maintained with the FT-700 and FS-100. We are happy with the finishing state. We only hope that you realize the effects when you maintain the tips using the FT-700 and FS-100.
