Is this unit an iron holder or a cleaner?
 

The HAKKO FT-710 is a tip cleaner. Be sure to use it together with an iron holder. If the tip is left inserted into the HAKKO FT-710 even for a short while, the tip will be burnt black.

Do not leave the soldering iron in the HAKKO FT-710 when both are switched on. Doing so will cause the tip to be burnt black as shown in the photo. Do not leave the soldering iron in the HAKKO FT-710 when both are switched on. Doing so will cause the tip to be burnt black as shown in the photo.
 
 
Be sure to use this cleaner together with an iron holder as shown above.
Iron holders which can be attached as shown in the combination example A
HAKKO FH-101 (Product # of main body : HAKKO FX-950)
HAKKO FH-200 (Product # of main body : HAKKO FX-951, etc.)
HAKKO FH-201 (Product # of main body : HAKKO FX-952)
When used with iron holders other than those above, the iron holder can be placed next to this tip cleaner as shown in the combination example B.
