Maintenance of desoldering tool
Top of Maintenance of desoldering tool > If the sucking capability is reduced
If solder is not completely melted

If the sucking capability is reduced, insufficient cleaning of the following 5 sections is assumed.

Cleaning the pump

Remove the pump head and check each component of the pump according to the following procedures.
The photo shows an example using HAKKO 474 (desoldering tool).Take out the pump according to the instruction manual for each unit.
Be sure to unplug the power cord before operation.
Position of pump head and diaphragm (HAKKO 474)

1.Check the exhaust filter.
If it is stained, clean it or replace it with a new one.

Position of exhaust filter / Appearance of new component / Appearance of component required replacement

2.Check the valve plate (if the valve plate and fixing plate are hard to remove, click here).
If it is stained with flux, etc., clean it with alcohol.
If it is deformed or stiff, replace it with a new one.
If the valve plate is broken, backflow of air may occur.

Position of valve plate / Appearance of new component / Appearance of component required replacement

3.Check the fixing plate (if the valve plate and fixing plate are hard to remove, click here).
If it is stained with flux, etc., clean it with alcohol.
If a flaw is observed in the air intake/exhaust into/from the fixing plate, replace it with a new one.
If there is a flaw, the sucking performance may be decreased.

Position of fixing plate / Appearance of new component / Appearance of component required replacement / If a flaw is observed in the air intake/exhaust into/from the fixing plate, replace it with a new one.
4.Check the pump head.
If it is stained with flux, etc., clean it with alcohol.
If a flaw is observed in the air intake/exhaust into/from the pump head, replace it with a new one.
If there is a flaw, the sucking performance may be decreased.

Remove fixing plate and valve plate from pump head / Appearance of new component / Condition where there is flux residue and cleaning is required
5.Check the diaphragm.
If it is stained with flux, etc., clean it with alcohol.
If it is deformed or stiff, replace it with a new one.

Position of diaphragm / Appearance of new component / Condition where the end has poor contact due to deformation and replacement is required.

[ Assembling the pump head ]
The photo shows an example using HAKKO 474 (desoldering tool).
*Assemble according to the instruction manual for each component. For HAKKO 808 users, click here.
1. Attach the diaphragm to the pump.
Since the screws for the diaphragm setting plate undergo micro-encapsulation (MEC) processing, be sure to apply locking agent after removal.
Attach the diaphragm to the pump.

2. Attach the valve plate and fixing plate to the pump head.
