Reserch & Development Division
The Reserch & Development Division currently has 40 members, and is comprised of four sections, namely the "Research Section", the "Development Section", the "Development Processing Support Section" and the "Technical Support Section".
This section carries out all types of basic research on soldering.
In manual soldering, two or more items are joined together by directly heating the surfaces to be joined with a soldering iron. In other words, soldering is the intermetallic reaction initiated between the solder, the flux, and the soldering iron tip with the surface to be soldered. Therefore, research on respective reactive components is indispensable.
Due to the recent trend in environmental issues, the use of "lead-free" solder and "halogen-free" flux has been increasingly promoted, which requires more complicated soldering techniques. We perform the research and development necessary to enable our customers to get safe and high-quality soldering results by fully understanding the characteristics of lead-free solder and halogen-free flux, and by improving the soldering iron tips and the performance of relevant devices.
The section develops new products in line with the customers' needs, which they anticipate by foreseeing changes in the markets so that we can provide the products to satisfy demands in a timely manner.
Staff members also visit our customers and directly collect opinions from the work floor in order to gain a deeper understanding of customer needs.
To ensure customers' ease of use, our products are adequately verified to conform to various safety and in-house standards.
Our product development is not limited to thermoelectric soldering tools. We are now also working to develop other types of products by applying the technologies we have acquired through our development of soldering tools, with the intentions of expanding the versatility of our technologies to manufacture products for the medical, packaging and food industries.
The section is responsible for the following three tasks.
- Acquiring safety standard certifications Hakko has been acquiring safety standard certifications not only of Japan, but also of various overseas areas including North America and Europe, to ensure that our global customers can use our products safely and with ease.
- Filing patent applications and taking actions against intellectual property breaches The imitations of our products and the products with the imitated trademarks of ours, which infringe on our intellectual properties, are recently put on the market, but none of them satisfy our quality standards. Hakko takes firm measures against the infringement of our patents or intellectual properties so that the customers can use our products without any worries. Intellectual Property Protection
- Preparing instruction manuals In the preparation of instruction manuals, we take a reader-focused approach by placing a particular focus on the clarity of the writing, and also inserting illustrations. Our instruction manuals are available in various languages including Japanese, English, Chinese, French, German and Korean. (Please note that instruction manuals are not available in some languages depending on the product.) HAKKO Document Portal
The section carries out the following five tasks.
- Pre-production Sample Department This department makes pre-production samples to put the customers' requirements into concrete shapes.
If you have any problem on the work floor, please feel free to contact this department. In the seminars provided herein, participants can learn basic theory and practical skills for manual soldering. The practical coaching also includes hand-on instructions for solving common problems. The instructors make collaborative efforts to help the participants effectively make use of what they have learned in the seminars on their work floors.
- Serendipity Laboratory (Demonstration Room) Serendipity Laboratory is a demonstration room located in our head office where customers can observe our products in a relaxed manner and freely try them. It gives customers a great opportunity to feel and verify the performance of products by picking them up in their own hands. We also present solution proposals, as well as provide support for problems related to soldering and rework in accordance with customers' usage and requirements.
- Repair Department This department provides repair and calibration services for our products. We consistently strive to provide the best service and to return repaired or calibrated products to customers as quickly as possible.
Furthermore, the department analyzes the repair data and feeds back the information on parts requiring frequent repair to our designers, who utilize this information in the development of new products. - Defect Handling The section analyzes defects in our products distributed on the market and takes necessary measures together with our designers for their improvement.
The Hakko Reserch & Development Division continues to make the best effort possible to meet our customers' expectations.
